4th Annual Pat Tillman Leadership Summit
“Somewhere inside, we hear a voice. It leads us in the direction of the person we wish to become. But it is up to us whether or not follow.” – Pat Tillman

Pat Tillman was a man driven by deep principles who selflessly answered a higher calling in response to the attacks of 9/11. In pursuit of that, he left his family, his home and a distinguished NFL career to serve as a U.S. Army Ranger in Iraq and then Afghanistan, where he was killed in 2004. The Pat Tillman Foundation was established by friends and family to honor Pat’s legacy of commitment to service, learning and action.
Today, the mission of the Pat Tillman Foundation is to invest in military veterans and their spouses through educational scholarships — building a diverse community of leaders committed to service. Since 2010, Tillman Military Scholars, Pat Tillman Foundation staff, board members and University Partners throughout the country have convened annually for the Pat Tillman Leadership Summit – a three day gathering designed to build and strengthen the Tillman Community around Pat’s principles.
The 4th Annual Pat Tillman Leadership Summit will convene at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois from July 11-14th, 2013. The Summit will empower Tillman Military Scholars to fuel their potential and impact our country’s future through their commitment to service, learning and action. Through leadership, career and creative development workshops, the Summit will encourage Scholars to network and collaborate to make a sustainable impact globally and in their local communities, as well as to increase awareness of the unique issues facing veterans and military families today.
The Summit will provide the opportunity for more than 150 Tillman Military Scholars to network face-to-face and to share their military and educational experiences with leaders from throughout the military, government and business communities. During the Summit, Scholars will actively participate in professional development forums, panels and workshops focused on civic and executive leadership, movement building, force mobilization, veteran storytelling and more. Additional activities will include a Day of Service in partnership with a EdgeAlliance, as well as fellowship events with veteran partner organizations Team Rubicon, Team Red White & Blue, Student Veterans of America, and The Mission Continues.

3rd Annual Leadership Summit
Tillman Military Scholars, Pat Tillman Foundation staff, board members and University Partners from throughout the country gathered at the 3rd Annual Pat Tillman Leadership Summit at the University of Maryland outside Washington, D.C. in July 2012. The Leadership Summit was a three day gathering designed to build and strengthen the Tillman Community, provide access to resources, teach leadership and job skills to the Tillman Military Scholars, make a sustainable impact through service in a local community and to increase awareness of the issues facing veterans and military families today.
The Summit provided the opportunity for more than 100 Scholars to network face-to-face and to share their military and educational experiences. During the event, Scholars actively participated in leadership and professional development workshops focused on addressing challenges associated with the transition from military to campus and civilian life. Additional activities include a Day of Service in partnership with D.C.-area nonprofits and the opportunity for each Tillman Military Scholar to meet with his or her Congressional representative on Capitol Hill and share a personal account of the issues facing active and veteran service members and their spouses on college campuses across the U.S. See photos from the 3rd Annual Leadership Summit.
