Born in Russia, Yana learned how to overcome obstacles in a productive way, from an early age. She has been a refugee twice and had to learn English when she came to America. Always a top performer academically, Yana is now pursuing a professional career in public health as a first generation college student.
Her husband is an active duty marine and Yana has learned many valuable lessons from his service. Being a military spouse, especially during her husband’s deployment, has taught Yana patience, the importance of family and how to be more caring and empathetic.
Yana’s family and the US have given her the motivation and opportunity to pursue her dreams. She believes human beings are connected and that helping each other makes the planet a better place. In the past, she has worked with teenagers at Smart-Girl Org., a nonprofit organization that empowers young females. Yana is fascinated with mental health intervention dealing with families and human relationships. Upon graduating, she wants to giving back to the community and act as a guide for families in need of support and inspiration.
