Stephen Naylor, Air Force Spouse

Stephen was commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (UK) in 2003 as a junior infantry officer in the British Army and was initially posted to the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Irish Regiment. While serving in Afghanistan, he met his wife, Kathy, who was serving as a captain in the United States Air Force and was working and living in the same operating base, Camp Eggers in Kabul.

Stephen points to Kathy’s self-sacrifice, determination to succeed and unlimited faith in the capacity of others to achieve their goals for leaving a lasting impression on him. He and Kathy married in January 2010 and moved to Colorado where Kathy was stationed at the Air Force Academy. He has a strong commitment to helping others as evidence by his community service in the U.S. While in Colorado, he volunteered at a shelter for homeless youth called Urban Peak and worked as a case manager for a company called Mosaic, helping adults with developmental disabilities articulate and accomplish their own goals in life.

Upon earning his bachelor’s degree, Stephen plans to continue into post-graduate education and ultimately study for a PhD to become a college professor. He wants to inspire other veterans to engage in higher education so they can continue to make a positive impact on society long after their military service is complete.
