Sergeant David Boucher

After graduating from high school, Sergeant David Boucher enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard with two goals in mind. The first was to pull himself out of the low income, blue collared fishing town where he grew up. And the second was to serve and defend his nation in the same way his father and his father’s father had before him. During his seven years of service, David deployed for a year-long tour to Iraq. In theatre, he drove over 11,000 miles escorting logistics, personnel and augmenting security forces. During this deployment, David discovered that his military service set the standard for the rest of his life.

When his tour ended, David returned home to marry his best friend, Abby. After the birth of their son, Charlie, he returned to college at the University of Maryland to pursue a degree in accounting. The determination and responsibility he learned while in the military are what keep David going as he commutes two hours each way to campus to complete his studies while maximizing the time he is able to spend at home. “I study while my wife and son are sleeping,” states David, “because I know they need me while they are awake.”

Beyond supporting his family, David aims to show others the value of our military veterans by sharing the ethos of civic leadership, strong personal values and striving for excellence that are the foundation for his life. David’s goal after graduation is to work for the U.S. government and account for the federal tax dollars being spent, ensuring their use in the most effective manner.
