While disarming roadside bombs on the streets of Baghdad in 2006, Petty Officer Second Class Ryan Martyn vowed that if he survived this deployment he would pursue his dream of becoming a physician.
Ryan separated from the Navy in 2008 and soon enrolled at the University of Colorado at Denver where he obtained a bachelor’s of science in biology in under three years. With his recent acceptance into the University of Colorado School of Medicine, this husband and father is one step closer to fulfilling the vow he made to himself and his fallen comrades.
Ryan’s time spent as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician has taught him many lessons, not least of which is the value of sacrifice in the service of others – a lesson that will continue to guide Ryan as he embarks on his journey to becoming a physician.
