Louis Thorne, Marine Corps Dependent

Louis Thorne’s father, Francis Thorne, served in Vietnam for the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1968. Louis had the utmost respect for him and his ability to overcome adversity. The life his father lived has served as an inspiration to Louis and although he passed away several years ago, the lessons of loyalty, courage and pride live on.

Today, Louis is enrolled at the University of Maryland pursuing a bachelor’s degree in agriculture science and technology. He dreams of owning an urban gardening company which will promote organic gardening and educate people on its benefits.

Louis’ love for the outdoors started at an early age, growing up on a farm and volunteering at a horse farm that rescues hundreds of horses who are neglected and abused. The nonprofit’s mission was to help restore their health and find people to adopt them. This experience led Louis to want to help the community on a larger scale. Armed with an education and passion to help others, Louis is looking forward to making a lastly impact on his community.
