Although he had no family history of military service, Brandon heard the call to serve after watching reports of the protracted war on TV. He joined the Navy with the dream of becoming a Navy SEAL, and after completing his training, became part of SEAL Team Ten in 2006.
He was deployed multiple times to Iraq, Africa and Afghanistan, but on his final deployment to Afghanistan, he lost his left leg while leading his platoon in an assault on a Taliban stronghold. In addition to a Purple Heart, Brandon earned a Bronze Star with Combat “V” and looks back with gratitude for the lessons in leadership and teamwork he learned and for the friendships he made.
Brandon already holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Ohio State University. Now, as he completes eight years of active duty service, he looks forward to starting the pursuit of a Juris Doctor at Georgetown University Law Center in the fall of 2012. Upon graduation he plans to work in the field of national security law and foreign policy. He wants to work in the national security field to uphold the role of the United States as a world leader in democracy and justice. He wants to play a role in having an impact on the nation’s tremendous burden of protecting the weak and bringing peace to areas of constant strife.
