Laura Tillman, Army Spouse

From a very young age, Laura prided herself on serving others. But, it was her husband’s commitment to service and giving back that truly caused her to appreciate the importance of service. Staff Sergeant John Tillman once told his wife that he chose the military because he believed a person should not get something without giving in return.

A few examples of Laura’s past service include volunteering at soup kitchens in college and spending several weeks in southern India helping train Indian nurses. And, at the age of 10, she approached her teacher with the idea of collecting funds to assist families that were evacuated after a train derailment in Wisconsin.

Laura earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Minnesota in 2009 and with it, designation as a certified public health nurse. She is pursuing an advanced degree to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. Through working at summer camps, she has always had a special connection with children and hopes to put her degree to work helping address their health needs. She also wants to reach beyond the nursing service and plans to work to impact healthcare legislation to ensure all individuals have access to affordable healthcare.
