A proud daughter of an educator and brave marine, Kathryn Hernandez is currently a junior at Texas A&M University. A psychology major, she plans to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and eventually earn her master’s degree.
The youngest of five children and a native Texan, Kathryn grew up in a small town where she excelled in academics and was greatly involved in volunteer efforts in the community through her school and other extracurricular activities such as student council and National Honor Society.
Her passion for helping others came from the countless hours she spent visiting nursing homes, building homes through Habitat for Humanity, organizing canned food and clothing drives and mentoring through Big Brothers Big Sisters. Volunteering made Kathryn realize she wanted to offer support to people who were less fortunate. Kathryn hopes to use her degree to work with children and to continue to make a difference in her community.
