Catherine Turner, Air Force Dependent

The daughter of an Air Force veteran and niece of an active duty Air Force member who recently returned from Afghanistan where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Catherine Turner is a proud member of a military family.

As a student at Mississippi State University in her home state of Mississippi, Catherine is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in education, with plans to eventually earn her Master’s degree in the same field. Outside of the classroom, Catherine gives back as an active member of the Shackoul’s Honors College, Delta Delta Delta Sorority, National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Alpha Lambda Delta. Through this involvement, Catherine has had the opportunity to work with several community organizations, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

She has learned from the example set by her father and uncle that there is no obstacle one cannot overcome with determination, drive and encouragement. The commitment of all servicemembers inspires Catherine each day to be the best she can be and help those in less fortunate circumstances. It is with these core values, this inspiration and the belief that education is a right for all, that Catherine is pursuing a career in teaching to bring education to those who are denied it.
