Cardinals plan tribute to veterans, former Cardinal Pat Tillman

Pre-game ceremony to take place on Tillman's 29th birthday

San Jose, CA. (November 3, 2005) - The Arizona Cardinals will honor America's veterans --including former Cardinal Pat Tillman- during ceremonies before their Nov. 6 game against the Seattle Seahawks at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

The ceremony will begin with recognition of living veterans from World War II to operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Then the Cardinals will remember Pat Tillman, the former Cardinal and Arizona State University scholar/athlete who gave his life while serving as an Army Ranger in Afghanistan. Nov. 6 would have been Tillman's 29 th birthday.

The Cardinals will then introduce the Tillman Scholars who are selected for the Pat Tillman Foundation's Leadership Through Action™ program at ASU. During the first semester, the scholars study leadership theory, ethics and practice. During the second semester, they create a service project that addresses a need they see in their communities. The scholars will also take part in the pre-kickoff coin toss.

Leadership Through Action™ is the focus of the foundation's mission of creating responsible, civic-minded leaders in Tillman's mold. The Tillman family recognized the impact he had on the people of Arizona and wanted to create a lasting legacy for people inspired by his actions. The first group of Tillman Scholars began studying under Dr. Laura Burgis and Professor Mike Mokwa in the fall. Each year, officials from the foundation and ASU will select up to 15 Tillman Scholars for Leadership Through Action™.
